What are the developmental screening tools?

The first five years of your child’s life are very important. Your child’s healthy development forms a foundation for lifelong learning.  The Ages & Stages Questionnaires, Third Edition (ASQ-3™) and the Ages & Stages Questionnaires: Social-Emotional, Second Edition (ASQ:SE-2™) are developmental screening tools that will provide a quick check of your child’s development.  The screens will help identify your child’s strengths and areas where your child may need support.

You may choose from either screen but it is beneficial to use both of them to get a better picture of where your child is developmentally.  Each screen is available in English and Spanish.

The ASQ-3™ has questions about a child’s abilities, organized in five areas: Communication, Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Problem Solving, and Personal-Social.  Each area has six questions that go from easier skills to skills that are more difficult. Your child may be able to do some but not all of the items. Read each question and mark “yes,” “sometimes,” or “not yet”.

The ASQ:SE-2™ is a set of questions about behavior and social-emotional development in young children.  You will answer each question by marking “often or always,” “sometimes,” or “rarely or never.”

Have fun completing these questionnaires with your child, and make sure he or she is rested, fed, and ready to play before your try the activities.

Once you have submitted the answers, we will contact you with the results.
